Michael Berger experiments with the creative opportunities that new technologies offer to artists. As one of the inventors of Polaroid Corporation's 35mm instant slide film, Berger used his expertise in blending art and science to create new types of images as well as imaging systems. For many years, he used camera and darkroom techniques to evoke impressionism. Today Berger explores the visual texture of the urban digital fine art, including current trends in materials and techniques for producing the finest digital prints.

Berger often begins by photographic as one would "sketch," and then from these photographic sketches a single image is created to best evoke a "sense of place." This is accomplished by use of several digital painting software programs. Berger prints a Giclée (fine art digital print) of the digitally painted image using archival inks and a variety of papers or canvases. The final image is often completed with traditional chalk pastels, oils, or acrylics to produce a unique finished painting that combines photography, digital imaging, and traditional art media.
